While the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45 may be two completely different models, they're both powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger. For the 2016 model year, Mercedes-Benz has upped the power output on both models, adding 20 hp and 18 lb-ft of torque.
Putting those numbers in perspective, both the GLA45 AMG and CLA45 AMG now deliver 375 hp and 350 lb-ft, and have shaved off tenths of second off their 0-60 mph times. Benz claims the GLA45 AMG is now a half a second faster than the previous model, managing the sprint in just 4.3 seconds, while the CLA45 AMG cuts out 0.3 seconds for a time of 4.1 seconds, putting it on par with the SL63 AMG. These numbers may be a conservative estimate, as when we were behind the wheel of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG, we managed to get a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds, when the automaker rated it at 4.8. The same is true for the 2014 CLA45 AMG. We achieved a time of 4.2 seconds, while Mercedes rated the 0-60 mph time of that model at 4.4 seconds.
Mercedes has added a host of new standard features to both models, including a new Dynamic Select system that replaces the E/S/M button, a new rotary knob and "M" button for manual mode, and the new "Race" mode, which is part of the Dynamic Plus Package. The infotainment system has also been upgraded to feature a standard 7-inch display, a new media interface, and pre-wiring for the Garmin Map Pilot. Keyless start, dual-zone climate control, and Turbo 4Matic side fender badges are also standard. The 2016 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45 will hit showroom floors later this year.
